Encryption at Rest
Every document file and every knowledge chunk is encrypted at rest with AES-256 (Fernet). Each workspace uses its own isolated encryption key — your data is never stored in plaintext in the database or file storage.

AES-256Cortexa encrypts every piece of customer data before it touches storage — including uploaded files in cloud storage and every knowledge chunk in the database. Data is never stored in plaintext, so a database breach or unauthorized storage access exposes only ciphertext.
Document Files
Every uploaded or synced file is encrypted with a master AES-256 key before being written to cloud storage (Cloudflare R2).
Knowledge Chunks
Each workspace has its own isolated Fernet key. Chunk text is encrypted with that key before being written to the database — vector embeddings remain intact for search.
Credentials & Secrets
Database passwords and connector credentials use envelope encryption — each secret is encrypted with a per-workspace data key, which is itself encrypted with the master key.
